Coyote Chillout Round Up

Raider Softball took their first road trip of the year down to Weatherford, Texas for the Coyote Chillout Weatherford College hosts. RSC played two games both days of the round robin tournament, taking on the same two teams both days. 
 
Day one, game one; #20 Coyotes 9, Raiders 4
 
Raider Softball had trouble keeping pace with nationally rank Weatherford College, 9-4 on Friday.
 
RSC opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two home runs. The first coming from leadoff hitter Kortney Griffith with a shot over the left field fence. Then, three batters later Kaysie Lee follows suit hitting it over left field.
 
Mia Corres triples as the leadoff hitter in the top of the second inning. Then a line out by Madison Barnes scores Corres to extend the Raider lead to 3-0.
 
Coyote Softball flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead.
 
Keylee Beckwith took the loss, going three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs (zero earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking one.
 
Camryn Graham, Lee, Griffith, and Corres each collected two hits. Barnes, Lee, Griffith, and Corres each drove in one run.
 
Day one, game two; Apaches 9, Raiders 1 (5 innings)
 
Tyler Junior College's big fifth inning aided in the defeat of Raider Softball, 9-1 in game two on Friday.
 
An error put RSC on the board in the top of the first.
 
But the Apaches took the lead in the bottom of the second, 2-1, with a double, scoring two runs.
 
Tyler scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Addison Wilson stepped in the circle first for RSC. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and three runs over three innings, striking out one and walking two.
 
The Raiders had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Kortney Griffith stole two bases. RSC was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
 
Day two, game one; #20 Coyotes 9, Raiders 1 (5 innings)
 
Nationally rank Weatherford College got on the board in the first inning after a solo home run to center field. The Coyotes extended their lead with five more runs in the bottom of the second inning. 
 
Morgan Thomas tried to get the Raiders bats going in the fifth with a solo home run to center field.
 
Addison Wilson took the loss as the starter. She went one and one-third innings, surrendering six runs on five hits, striking out two and walking one. Allie Lee came in as relief in the second inning. Lee went two and two thirds innings with three runs off two hits, struck out one and walked one.
 
Thomas and Lauren Holmes each collected one hit. Thomas led the team with one run batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. The Raiders turned one double play in the game.
 
Day one, game two; Apaches 8, Raiders 7
 
Raider Softball battled with Tyler Junior College, scoring five of the seven innings. But they fell short by one run, losing 8-7.
 
RSC got on the board in the top of the first inning after Morgan Thomas singled, scoring Kortney Griffith. Then, Jordan Anthony-Baade scored after tagging up on a sacrifice fly to left from Mia Corres. Followed by Mackinzie Delong grounding out, scoring Thomas.
 
The Apaches tie the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double and a home run.
 
A double by Griffith gave the Raiders back the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second.
 
Tied game once again in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly scoring one for the Apaches.
 
An error gave RSC the lead back again, 5-4, in the top of the fourth.
 
A series of base hits in the bottom of the fifth gives Tyler JC the lead for the rest of the game.
 
Raider fight in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring one run each inning. But these little surges weren't enough to overcome the Apaches. 
 
Beckwith took the loss. The starting pitcher went all six innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, striking out five and walking two. 
 
Leadoff hitter Griffith led the team with two hits in two at bats. Anthony-Baade led the Raiders with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Skylar Wells had the best eyes collecting three of those walks.
 
Raider Softball will hit the road again this Tuesday heading to Vernon, Texas for a doubleheader with the Chaps. Click here for full schedule.
