The No. 21 Rose State College Raiders softball team proved their national ranking was well-earned this weekend, navigating a grueling slate of opponents at the Denison Tournament. Facing three nationally ranked programs in just two days, the Raiders showcased resilience and grit, finishing the weekend with a pair of hard-fought victories.
Game 1: No. 21 Raiders Edge No. 22 Temple in Top-25 Battle
The weekend began with a highly anticipated showdown as No. 21 Rose State took on No. 22 Temple College. In a game that lived up to the billing, the Raiders' composure proved to be the difference. Rose State leaned on disciplined plate appearances and clutch defensive stops to edge out the Leopards in a 4-3 victory.
Game 2: Battling the Top Spot
In the second half of Thursday's doubleheader, Rose State faced the ultimate test against the top-ranked team in NJCAA Division II, No. 1 Murray State College. While the high-powered Murray State offense managed to claim a 14-0 win, the Raiders used the opportunity to test their depth against the country's premier competition, gaining valuable experience that would pay dividends less than 24 hours later.
Game 3: Bats Explode in Victory over NCTC
The Raiders returned to the diamond Friday morning with a clear focus, bouncing back in a big way against North Central Texas College. The Rose State offense found its rhythm early and often, erupting for eight runs. The 8-4 victory highlighted the Raiders' ability to respond to adversity, as the lineup combined power and speed to dismantle the NCTC pitching staff.
Game 4: Pitching Duel with No. 7 Paris
Rose State closed out the weekend in a heavyweight defensive battle against No. 7 Paris Junior College. In what developed into the most intense pitching duel of the tournament, the Raiders' staff went toe-to-toe with one of the most potent offenses in the nation. While the No. 7 Dragons eventually escaped with a narrow 2-0 win, the Raiders proved they could shut down elite scoring threats.
